Questions

Arabic transcription, answered

Is Arabic transcription free?

You get $5 of credit when you sign up, with no card — about 33 hours of audio at $0.15 an hour. After that you top up for what you use. There is no subscription, and a request that fails is never billed.

Does it understand Gulf and Levantine dialect?

Yes — it is built for dialect. It writes the words that were spoken instead of converting them into Modern Standard Arabic, and it transcribes Modern Standard Arabic as well.

Can it transcribe phone calls and WhatsApp voice notes?

Yes. Narrow-band phone audio is where it was measured: 40% fewer character errors than the leading Arabic vendor on a real call-in. WhatsApp voice notes (.opus) and call recordings (.amr, .m4a) go in as they are.

Which file formats work, and how long can a recording be?

Any common audio or video format — MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, FLAC, MP4, MOV, WEBM and more — up to 100 MB and four hours per file.

What happens to my recording?

Until you sign in it never leaves your browser. After that it goes straight to our transcription server, where it is transcribed and discarded. The transcript is saved in your history so you can find it again, and you can delete it at any time.

Can I get subtitles with timestamps?

The transcript on this page is plain text. For subtitles, open your video in the nutq studio: it times the captions to the audio and exports them as SRT or VTT.

Which languages does it transcribe besides Arabic?

English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Greek, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese. Leave the language on Detect and it works it out for each file.

Is there an API?

Yes. POST the file to /v1/transcribe with your key and the text comes back with exactly what it cost. Same model, same price.
